Armenia Not Planning To Send Peacekeepers To Lebanon

(PanARMENIAN.Net; 01.09.2006) According to Republic of Armenia's Presidential spokesman, Victor Soghomonyan, " Armenia will not be sending a peacekeeping contingent to the Lebanese-Israeli conflict zone ".

Soghomonyan stated that given the small number of the Armenian peacekeepers that are prepared to go, they really couldn't play a decisive role . He also argued that the involvement of Armenian peacekeepers in the Lebanon could cause problems for the Armenian community there.

(Pokr Mher: Funny, but these same points could also have served to argue against sending Armenian peacekeepers to Iraq as well. But they were sent all the same. Any guesses as to who was turning the screws back then??)
